MKS DS480 Digital Servo 10.9g

Posted on | November 12, 2009 | 2 Comments

True precise and fast 250 – 450 sized tail heli servo. It will fit your t-rex 450SE/450 SUPER, HK450, CopterX 450 perfectly and will work great.

Will not fit t-rex 450 PRO.

Specifications:
Operating Voltage: 4.8~6.0V
Torque: 4.8V/ 1.85 Kg.cm
Speed: 0.068s/60°
Size: 22.5x10x23.5 mm
Gear Type: All Metal Gears
Weight: 10.9g

Although I don’t recommend using it with over 5.5V, it will work with 6V but the life of the servo will be reduced.

Don’t use them as cycle swashplate servos, they are fast and precise, but a bit weak if you want a really good speed/torque ratio, the MKS DS470 will do the job for the cycle servos better.

This video tests 200 sized heli with this servo on the tail:

One thing I didn’t like about this servo that it doesn’t have heat sink body, so it tends to heat up little after a hard 3d flight.

I give this servo 4.5 stars, not 5 only because there is no heatsink but this shouldn’t be a major problem for most people.

HobbyCity.com price for registered members is $26.49 with unregistered air worldwide shipping, about 7$ cheaper then the Align ds420, but the align servo does have the heatsink.

The common choice for cyclic servo on the 450 pro is the HS-5065mg, but the torque specs at 4.8v are the same as this DS480, but the 480 is almost twice as fast.

I’m wondering if there is a real disadvantage to using this on the cyclic, over the 5065mg.

I just got some DS480s and testing it on the bench I’m pretty happy (so far) with the accuracy, speed, centering and slop.
